Meet the doctors

Dr. Raha Yousefi, DDS, MPH

Dr. Raha Yousefi’s passion for dentistry and patient care started at a young age. Her father is a dentist who practiced in Washington, DC for 40 years. Growing up, she had the opportunity to see all aspects of a dental office; she started working at the front desk in high school, moving into clinical assisting, and eventually working as an office manager while attending the University of Maryland where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Dr. Yousefi continued her dental journey at Howard University, obtaining her Doctor of Dental Surgery. After graduation, she went on to specialize in periodontics at the University of Pittsburgh where she also earned her master’s in public health.

In addition to formal schooling, Dr. Yousefi is enthusiastic about pursuing continued education both on a local and national level. She feels that it is important to keep current with evolving technology, techniques, and materials to provide state-of-the-art treatment options for her patients.

As a member of the District of Columbia Dental Society and local chapters of the American Dental Association (ADA), Dr. Yousefi routinely participates in meetings that highlight issues that directly affect our area. She is also a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Greater Washington Academy of Women Dentists, and the Greater Washington Academy of Dental Studies. Her strong public health background has made her a well-rounded practitioner with expertise in a variety of dental disciplines. This has allowed her to recently accept a volunteer appointment as a Dean’s Faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, teaching as a clinical instructor.

Dr. Yousefi loves getting to know the community, one patient at a time. She appreciates each of her patients for who they are and respects each person’s opinions and ideas. She knows that communication is key in her field, and she loves talking to and learning about her patients.

Dr. Roy Eskow, DDS

Dr. Roy Eskow is one of the most highly trained and accomplished periodontists in the Bethesda MD area. He focuses on gum disease treatment, implant dentistry, and compassionate dental care. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland where he earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees. Dr. Eskow went on to Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry where he received his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Periodontics.

Dr. Eskow returned to the Bethesda area to teach at the University of Maryland Dental School in the Department of Periodontology. He has remained on the staff of the University since 1976, serving in several roles as an Assistant Clinical Professor, and member of the Dean’s Faculty and Board of Visitors.

Dr. Eskow founded the Bethesda Dental Implant Center in 1986. For nearly 30 years, his private practice has been devoted to providing patients with exceptional care and personal attention in the greater Washington area. Patients with gum disease and/or missing teeth often have a fear of the dentist. Dr. Eskow is able to make patients feel instantly at ease and explain their treatment options in a way that is easy to understand so that they can make informed decisions about their dental health.

Dr. Syeda Mahbub, DDS

Dr. Syeda Mahbub is a periodontist dedicated to delivering personalized, comprehensive periodontal care with a warm and approachable style. With a strong foundation in both the science and art of dentistry, Dr. Mahbub combines clinical precision with a deep understanding of the individual needs of each patient.

Originally from New York, Dr. Mahbub earned her Bachelor of Science in Cell and Developmental Biology from the University of Rochester. Her passion for the life sciences and patient care led her to pursue dentistry at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. She continued her advanced education at Stony Brook, completing her specialty training in Periodontics with a focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, as well as soft and hard tissue augmentation and placement of dental implants.

During her dental education, Dr. Mahbub was recognized for her exceptional clinical skills and commitment to excellence, receiving the prestigious American Academy of Periodontology Dental Student Award for Outstanding Achievement in Periodontics.

Dr. Mahbub is known for her meticulous attention to detail, compassionate demeanor, and holistic approach to care. She believes that successful treatment extends beyond the tooth — it requires understanding the whole patient. Her goal is to create a comfortable, collaborative environment where patients feel empowered and understood.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Mahbub enjoys spending her free time taking long walks by the Baltimore harbor with her husband — usually with an ice cream in hand, thanks to her well-known sweet tooth. She’s also passionate about exploring new cultures and cuisines, and loves traveling to new countries whenever she gets the chance.

What are dental implants and how do they work?

Permanent, secure solution for missing teeth

Unlike dentures, which can slip or cause discomfort, implants are securely anchored in the jaw bone, providing a natural feel and long-lasting solution. With proper care, implants can last for decades.

Preserve your jaw bone

Dental implants do more than just replace teeth. They stimulate your jaw bone, just like a natural tooth root would. This keeps bone density alive and prevents the sunken look that can happen with missing teeth.

Help you enjoy life again

With implants, you can get back to smiling, laughing, and eating all your favorite food again. Implants are designed to look, feel, and function just like the rest of your natural smile.

Your Journey to a New Smile Starts Here

01

Consultation and Planning

We'll assess your oral health, discuss your goals, and use advanced 3D imaging to create your custom implant roadmap.

You'll leave with a clear understanding of your options, timeline, and costs.

02

Implant Placement

When you lose a tooth, you also lose the roots that keep it in place. Your doctor will add a small, screw-like post made of titanium into your jaw bone.

This acts like the root of your missing tooth.

03

Take Time to Heal

Over the course of several months, your jaw bone will grow around the titanium post, holding it firmly in place.

This will keep your jaw strong and prevent it from deteriorating over time.

04

Add the Crown

After your jaw heals, your doctor will attach a new, custom-made tooth to the post — this is called a crown.

The crown will be shaped and colored to perfectly match your other teeth.

If you wait, treatment may not be possible...

Jaw bone begins to weaken

Without a tooth root's stimulation, your jaw bone begins to shrink immediately after tooth loss. This can make future implant placement difficult or even impossible.

Teeth shift out of place

The gap left by your missing tooth allows surrounding teeth to move. This shift can complicate future implant placement and cause severe bit issues.

face will start looking older

Jaw bone loss can lead to a sunken facial appearance, making you look older than you are. Getting implants can help you maintain your youthful features for years to come.
